This is Bistek al la Mexicana a common dish found many places. There are several places I get this some better than others but all real decent! Kind of a tomato based sauce with generally pretty tender pieces of beef and a fair amount of it. The rice is pretty generic but the frijoles can be something else. This also includes as many fresh made in front of you tortillas you want and brought to you with a smile. Something like this costs around 50-60 pesos or $3. The squeezed as you watch orange juice is 20 and brings the price up a bit but worth it. Nothing in the States I've ever had compares to this not even close plus it'll cost 7-10 smacks. I don't know what I'm going to eat when I return. It will be an adjustment as I do this so much that is go into Puerto Vallarta on the south side and have me a excellent lunch with "real" Mexican food not the slop I get back there. I do not plan on eating out much at all only at maybe three select places. Pricey yes but worth it because it's so good. I threw away so much money last summer eating way overpriced shitty food. Several times the food got thrown away as well. The whole of Mexico is an eating machine I tell you. I'm gonna miss this.

I feel good and and think the higher temps and humidity contributes to that. It's the same every time. After a month or two you realize and say " Hey I feel pretty damn good!"

Just as important I believe the food made fresh with wholesome fresh ingredients as well contributes to that. Get off the bus in town the food smells everywhere make me hungry just like that.

Straight Is Important

It was so nice yesterday. Mowed most of the greens for the first time this year about a month behind last year. Enjoy this time of the season the best because you have the whole place to yourself. I know it's the people who chase that white ball around and beat the piss out of it that pay the wages but it's much better when they aren't around. When they come out I go in. It may not be much but I still get a lot of satisfaction after mowing a green and it looks good. This example isn't too bad for the first time out but there is a flaw right in the middle of the picture. If you look closely to the right you can see where there was some grassed missed. Mistakes such a this show up dramatically in the late afternoon and looks really bad. In this business straight is a must and crooked makes everyone look bad.

The lines you see is called striping. This has become a big deal every where and not only with golf. I think it can be overdone but do enjoy how innovative some operators can get as it can look way too cool. On baseball fields the patterns are fun too.

Striping is accomplished by a roller at the rear of the cutting unit. The lighter stripes above the mower is moving away the dark moving towards. You can see the effect by using you hand on your carpet. What happens is the grass in this case is lain over in different directions and striping is the result you see.

This is the type of mower that mowed the green. It's called a tri-plex as it has three cutting units. That is not me in the above photo. This is a Toro powered by an 18hp V-Twin Briggs& Stratton motor. Two wheel hydrostatic drive power steering with the cutting units also hydraulically driven. These machines are fun to operate but can reach out and bite you if you happen to have your head up your ass on any particular day. A new one costs about 22k at the
low end. Here is an example of how sharp these things are.

An example of head up ass.

  1. I see the last picture was taken for posterity from the seat of a tractor. It's only fair to make the transgressor hook up the chain too, LMAO

  2. That's true Busted but it took the A team to get this out as it's worse than it looks. Just one rock stopped this kid from going another 20 feet into high and fast water something he may not have walked away from. As it was it took about six hours to get this back to the shop and repair it.

  3. Golf?

What a waste of land better suited for a nice airport or gliderport with grass runways.

  4. Glider port maybe but as is it's not a waste. I have huge problems with aspects of this business. Corporate influence is the reason. I base what I write from the maintenance side which is not commonly seen.

There are positives too but all this is something for another time maybe. I will say that over the years seeing so many mostly young people including the girls change in a positive way because of the experience taking with them skills they will use for a lifetime. Seem to be a breeding ground for Stupidintendents as there are a bunch in that category. Find that interesting and kinda cool.

  5. maybe you can get a show on NPR -- lawnmower guy
