I drove past this between Salida and Cotopaxi on State Highway 50 in Colorado. I had to turn around and tell whoever that I stood with them totally assuming I was correct. I was and got the biggest hug of appreciation for doing so.

From my understanding, there are close to 3000 children being held around this country after being seized from their parents at the border.

Many will never see their Mom and Dad again because Republicans are totally evil.

You bastards!

Over five years ago coming up from the river where I had been fishing I came up to this curve where an ambulance was driving away without the lights going. As I drove past there were pieces of a wrecked motorcycle. It was pretty obvious what had happened and what the results were.

On Friday when I left I noticed there was a picture attached to the small memorial for this person something I had not seen before. I said to myself that if the weather was good I was stopping on the way home. The accident happened going this way and I just want to say that this is a 55mph curve and if you glance away at the wrong time this thing can bite you so fast and it did to this young man. You can see in this picture drivers are having problems.

Never saw much about this but I did find the article about the accident and information about this young Czechoslovakian. I remembered that he was not an American.

These five years seem to have flown by and I drive past this accident site a fair amount and there has not been a time I did not think of this person and now I can put a face on this person I never knew who was also a father.

The article states he was riding fast. Many drive fast on this road and I'm one of them-it's fun sometimes if conditions warrant it. This curve even though I know it's coming still to this day is deceiving and unfortunately it wasn't his speed so much as the curve itself that killed this person.

I just wanted to acknowledge this and the fact there is now a face and a name.

  1. Such a young life lost and the article says he had a three-year-old son, very sad. I see those road-side memorials all over, as I'm sure we all do. But, I don't think I've ever seen one like this before. The cross is awesome, made with love, along with the entire memorial.

It's so thoughtful of you, One Fly, to acknowledge this. You are one special person.

  2. Yes, it is sad. It was back in June when I took a trip to Colorado. I'd lived there for a number of years when I was younger. Even spent a couple years living in Avon. Biking the mountains was a favorite pastime, and I've ridden the road you depict more than a few times. For my June trip I stayed on the front range, but I put close to 2,000 miles on the bike all together.

Hard for me to say how I feel after reading your post. While I was there and riding across the Twin Peaks I came across something eerily similar.

  3. OTC- Remember as kids all those little white crosses signifying the lives lost out on our highways and byways. Sometimes there'd be 6-8 in one bunching. At his stage of the game we've all lost our innocence as well as familiy and friends: I still feel uneasy tho when approaching those blind hills on rural roads. How about you?

  4. Actually Karen the truth of the matter is that more think I'm an asshole. I've been called a whole bunch of bad names lately and got banished and all comments deleted from a local site where you can't even cuss. Imagine that and I thank you for the kind thought!

MB-I remember the post you wrote and made a comment even. There was something about this one and memorials like this are all over the place. I knew when I went past it was a fatality.

You betcha I'm careful. Stay way over on the right. Last year there were a slew of deaths from people running stop signs at blind intersections obscured by corn. Never could understand that.

  5. One Fly- What to make of this trial brouhaha in NYC. My take is as follows: If the trial is in criminal court in NYC then, in his defense, KSM can introduce the methods used to obtain his confessions(evidence). If waterboarding is the method then his defense team can call and/or introduce the names of those who ordered it. With that as part of the court record both our and international laws will be documentedas broken. So Chaney/Bush/Rummy will be on the hook for war crimes, at the very least in other countries, if not ours. The World Court where the butchers of Bosnia were tried. There is your accountability, finally. Either that or Obama/Holder,etc use other unrevealed information to gain convictions. In that case Obama will have revealed himself to be part of the legal whitewashing which I fear is what's going to be taking place in NYC. This will be a good test to see if we are Argentina and Columbia or America. My fear is it will just be another nail in the coffin for our independent judiciary. I sent in my ACLU renewal just in case there is a small chance that justice will finally catch up with these war criminal/fascists. P.S. For all you "Constitutional Cowboys" who want to hang'em high: a very large fuck you. I'm one of those who'll protect your rights even when I hate your guts. The right to your day in court even trumps your defense(by omission) of mass murderers and torturers like Cheney, Bush, Rummy and the rest of these butchers. These butchers will not remain free and use my name in the coverup. Viva la Revolution.

  6. Sounds to me they don't have to even enter the realm of torture to get a conviction.
