I drove past this between Salida and Cotopaxi on State Highway 50 in Colorado. I had to turn around and tell whoever that I stood with them totally assuming I was correct. I was and got the biggest hug of appreciation for doing so.

From my understanding, there are close to 3000 children being held around this country after being seized from their parents at the border.

Many will never see their Mom and Dad again because Republicans are totally evil.

You bastards!

School District Abandons Religious Liberty Bid

OTC has made two other posts on this and hopefully this one will be the last one ever. But knowing just how religiously fucking nuts so many are you can damn well bet these same nutters will be back in the future in the hope of imposing their asinine dogma on others who don't want it. That's the nutter way when you believe in a finger snapper that has never existed you see.

The latest-

The policy's first draft, which included a Bible class and a critique of evolutionary theory, drew fire in July from civil rights activists nationwide who said it promoted Christian beliefs.

A big shout out of thanks to all those back in NW Iowa who have a brain and brought sanity and reality into this and without question helped stop this insane crazy ass shit from a bunch of mind fucked religious fucks who have eaten too much fermented corn or something like that!

  3. I respectfully disagree. I think religion should be taught in schools, just like sex education. Certainly there is a historical significance on the laws and the many cultures of the world. Of course there should be no favoritism to any one religion. I think it would be important to show all the dirt on past wars and misdeeds for they are vast and numerous. All the warts—no one should be spared, everything should be objectively discussed.

Without an honest view of religion the past just clouds the great damage that has been done and leaves children vulnerable to the damage that goes on in the here and now.

  4. What about atheism Max and who's gonna decide if everything is fair and square - me?

  5. Treat it like Mythology, only with a death count because there is one and it is quite high.

And atheism doesn’t do it. Even if everyone was an atheist there would still be people studying religion. The importance of studying something is the ability to undo it. To deconstruct it by removing the smoke and mirrors. Stop it from taking root in the first place. By breaking religion up into its bare parts, its nuts and blots, demystifies it. Makes it brittle.

It would be more than “fair and square” it would have to be clinical, without any of the romance.

  6. If religion is to be taught in school, then it should incluld ALL known religions including paganism. Max has made an important point.

As for tax payers paying for bible classes, that is an entirely different issue. No bible classes on my tax dollars. If people want to study the bible, then they should go to a church that teaches the bible.

  7. Does Cats include wiccuns and their beliefs in the study of religion or paganism? Most scholarly studies say it is a religion but most people think it is paganism. The study of anything as historically important in world history as religion should be encouraged. The Gnostic Gospels are well worth studying just for their heresy to what has become the Catholic Church. I had many Essene friends at one time: most Catholics, etc referred to them as the Insanes. As for tax dollars what about the State University Systems throughout America. Many are co-mingled within and around the Philosophy and Classical Studies Programs. Everyone who pays taxes supports relious study by the school systems. While all moral codas have guiding principles, including Atheism and Agnosticism, religions have The Prophet or The One(s). Don't let the " True Believers" inculcate our youth with The Cloud Guy. Teach the empowerment of spiritual strength in every facet of the life journey, including death. All gods are bad if they refuse to accept rejection as a honest response to the message.

Uhm, sex is real. Imaginary dudes with beards floating around in the sky cavorting with nude angels flappin' wings ain't real. Sex real. Made-up guy in the sky, not real. Get the difference?

If you're gonna teach made-up bullshit in schools, at least make it made-up bullshit that makes more sense than the drunken babblings of a buncha illiterate shepherds in the Middle East. Fuck, might as well teach Battlestar Galactica in the schools, it's more entertaining and just as real, meow!

  9. There is, and has been, to much religion in the world for it to be ignored in the classroom, I agree with Max, every cult and branch should be studied, and also the wars and persecutions that have been conducted in it's name. I find the beliefs of the ancients fascinating, it's a wonder that great thinkers, scientists, engineers ever flourished in those societies that had a God for everything, but flourish they did, they excelled not because of religion, but despite of religion. Atheism is a belief system too.

  10. HE, if kids want to learn about made-up shit, they can turn on the television. I suggest the Sci-Fi channel or whatever they call it nowadays, better production qualities than the weird-ass science fiction shit called "religious literature" (chariots of fire? People turning into pillars of salt? Talking burning bushes? Sheesh, these guys need better special effects people!). A brief survey of various religious literatures *might* be appropriate for a high school literature class during their study of fiction. On the other hand, maybe not. Have you ever actually read some of that shit? That's some fucking sick crap, as inappropriate for a school environment as rape porn!

Reality isn't a belief system. Reality simply *is*. Reality is shit we can see and measure and examine, maybe indirectly in some cases but it exists and we can show it exists, independent of whoever is looking at it. Calling reality the same thing as some made-up science fiction bullshit penned by shepherds who'd spent too much time servicing the flock after getting fucking smashed on enough wine to float a boat(heh!) is just fucking CRAZY.

  12. Dear Kitty, Kitty, Kitty- 4 people witness a shooting in say; Dallas, Texas. Four accounts of an event seen in the exact time and space by 4 sets of eyes. Four different accounts of the same measurable phenomena develop. Is the filter of individual reality, here 4, leading us to what really happened: the truth. Or down a slippery slope of where the biggest and meanest and loudest TomCat wins?
