I drove past this between Salida and Cotopaxi on State Highway 50 in Colorado. I had to turn around and tell whoever that I stood with them totally assuming I was correct. I was and got the biggest hug of appreciation for doing so.

From my understanding, there are close to 3000 children being held around this country after being seized from their parents at the border.

Many will never see their Mom and Dad again because Republicans are totally evil.

You bastards!

Fires Plenty In The Cornfield

In one day local fire departments were ever so busy and the picture helps tell the story as well.  This is actually from the county I grew up in.

Many area farmers brought their discs, field cultivators and chisel plows into the fields to assist firefighters in battling the numerous field fires last Thursday afternoon, but this local farmer found his field cultivator ablaze as he worked to create a firebreak east of Emmetsburg. He stopped, unhooked the implement from his tractor Emmetsburg firefighters arrived to extinguish the implement’s tires and a ditch fire adjacent to the scene. –-Dan Voigt photo

  1. I have a number of connections to Iowa. My son went to the University of Northern Iowa for his master's. While there, he met his wife to be, who was from the Elma area. They were married in a church in Chester. I had a drinking buddy back in the 1970s who was from the Lake Okoboji area. Later, my brother, while a veep at Stephens College in Columbia, MO, was responsible for some sort of retreat facility the college owned at Lake Okoboji. And my first employer after I graduated from high school was from Cedar Rapids. My daughter-in-law's parents--now almost 90--live in Waterloo. And then there's you.

  2. I remember you mentioning a connection to Iowa before. Used to hang out in Columbia in the old days. A lot of guys kept there eyes open for those Stephens girls.

The two lakes the other being Spirit are know to everyone just as "the lakes". Close to home and many fun times there. I remember too the connection with Stephens. Never saw any girls around there though.

Have you heard about the college?

  3. Now that you mention it, that drinking buddy--his name is Tom D'Spain--often wore a University of Okoboji t-shirt.
