I drove past this between Salida and Cotopaxi on State Highway 50 in Colorado. I had to turn around and tell whoever that I stood with them totally assuming I was correct. I was and got the biggest hug of appreciation for doing so.

From my understanding, there are close to 3000 children being held around this country after being seized from their parents at the border.

Many will never see their Mom and Dad again because Republicans are totally evil.

You bastards!

Not The Only One

The picture below that was on top of the page the day this post was made is the reason for the thread.  It's about cars.

A poll question from the Cortez Journal.

Is the recession coming to an end?

No way - 59%
Yes way - 4%
Getting better but miles to go - 29%
It's already over - 2%
Later in 2012, maybe - 6%

  1. My first car was a 1953 Chevrolet Bel Air (I married it when I married my wife, who owned it). My current vehicle is a 2008 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. In between, I've owned a 1966 Ford Mustang 289, a 1972 Datsun PL 510, a 1974 Ford Pinto Station Wagon, a 1978 International Scout, and a 1989 Ford F-150. In the meantime, my wife has owned three Buicks--one Century and two LeSabres. And, way back when, we owned, as a second car, a 1954 Pontiac (don't recall the model), which we bought for $50, drove it for two years, and sold it for $50.

  2. Oops, left out one vehicle I've owned: a 1963 Volkswagen Beetle. Other than the first Chevrolet, the Pontiac, and the Scout, all of my cars were bought new. My previous vehicle, the Ford F-150, I drove for 19 years and put 223,000 miles on it. I gave it to my older son who is still driving it.

  3. Vehicle stories are fun. So I was thinking as well about the makes of all the cars I've owned and in all seriousness I do not think I could remember them all. First one was a '58 Impala. You made me remember the VW.

    I think it's been for me -
    Chevy - bunches of
    Honda - several
    Subara - plenty
    VW - one Westfalia
    Dodge - one POS pickup

There are pictures in a folder of some. I feel a post coming up.

I may be bok with additions I'm not sure but something tells me there is another make lurking in the past.

  4. I spent way too much time in the back seat of a 1953 Studebaker in my teen years....

    Too much information?

    Or not enough?

    LOL

sorry, I'm in an odd mood and it's snowing....

  6. Hey, is the dodge pos that white van you used to own? For awile there you were going thru a car a month. but that was when you were much younger.

  7. You mean the one I sold to you and forgot about. Make that a Dodge Dakota P/U - a Dodge Mini Ram van ( one of the best vehicles owned by me) and what you refer to which was a Plymouth I think but a Chrysler product which they all are.

    Or something like that.

  8. My first car was a Datsun 1200 in a dark, military green.

I found it in a repair shop filthy and in need of a battery and a brake job.

The battery I fixed but, at 16 years old, I knew zero about brakes so I had the shop do it. I forgot to mention, I paid a staggering $300 for the car.

I drove that damned car until I graduated from college. I think I got 30MPG. Not bad for a first car.

  10. The only car I've ever owned that was worth a shit is the one I've owned for the last 9 years, a Toyota. My hubby loves his F-150 though and it's 4 years older than my car. :)

  11. We got us some Ratsun's running around here. There were and are still good cars. There is a following for sure that I know of of the 510's. Independent rear suspension and with a bit of modification these become Mini Cooper like for cornering.

Of course the Studebakers weren't made for cornering ya see.

  12. The dual points on my Datsun PL 510gave me fits over the years. I still remember buying a new set at a K-Mart in Calexico, California, way back in the 80s. Despite my best efforts, I never could get them set just right.

  13. The best thing that ever happened to guys who turn wrenches was miracle ignition. It just don't break. Problem then become you don't recognize it if it does.

Being a Cali beach girl Nunya I expected American girl muscle like a Mustang 2=2 but I think you're much younger than us guys.

  14. I just e-mailed the following below to Fearguth because this thread is fun. And it's supposed to be fun too ya know.

You're list of vehicles is actually quite short. The Buick's your wife drove are great cars as well. Dad had a Lumina and they get 30 easy and go like hell. I've come close to buying something like that.

A goal I would shoot for and did it for a long time. I would drive my cars for 2.5 cents a mile. The difference between what it was bought and sold for and the amount of miles driven. If there was any repairs which just never happened with me that would be include in that figure. Get what I wanted a good one and do what was needed to put in the best shape you could. That figure was the total price of the car. Drive them 60-80k and sell them with a lot of life left. They pretty much got this shit down if you take care of them and drive them right. They don't break much at least they didn't for me. I've found cars for people if they asked me. Just have to decide what you want and keep your eyes open and the right one at the right price will come in time. Private party with some records at least and preferably guys like us. That's what it was again with this Tiger van I bought. What nice people and Dexter & Rose did a lot of little extras and it was not represented even a little bit. I'm headed out on Sunday morning I think. Down the easterner side of New Mexico across 40 and back towards Albq where these old old missions are. Actually I don't really know but something like that starting out. I might be gone 1 day or six weeks.

So your a Chevy man like me. That's good and I know some of these trucks like yours are are going well over 200k easy. Ran up to Pueblo today and was thinking about this and then I remembered a car I hadn't thought about and then I'd remember another one. Quickly a few-

1-50 Bel Air Driven for years first by me and then longer by my brother. $90 in 75. Almost like new.
    1-53 " "
2-59 " " One was a station wagon. 50 smacks in 71. Ground the valves and drove it for a 100k What a car.
1-60 " " The worst of all of them.

And then the 63 comes into play that I forgot about. Then there's the 63 Nova and the 51 3100 Chevy pick up an . . . .

    Later friend,
    One Fly

There was a 66 Nova too that was nothing but bad luck.

I just remembered a 66 Chevelle I brought to Colorado for my brother.

My 64 Chevelle SS - ya see and there's too many more I think and maybe a couple that have been forgotten.

Ya like the $50 Chevelle I bought when I got back from the PC. Actually was going to spend several hundred on a car but found this. 850 total with a new motor and what have you. Brought that car to Colorado and that went close to a 100k and I hated to see that go. I can't remember what that got replaced with. Now I gotta problem.

  15. As I said in my email, Fly, your car knowledge is simply astonishing. All I know is when I stick my key into the ignition switch, I twist and wait for the Last Judgment.

  16. Without question - life became more complicated with the purchase of this other vehicle. It's all real good except when they don't move for instance.

  17. My first car was a 1972 Chevrolet Biscayne, a former Highway Patrol car. You could still make out the decals under the paint.

It was too much car for a dumbass teenager. I almost drove it through a horizon that pulled out in front of me. It didn't do my car a hell of a lot of damage, but it shook me to the point I just couldn't drive the car anymore. The unfortunate woman who was a passenger when the genius pulled out in front of me left on a stretcher. It's a scene I never really got over.

  18. RZ: 'bout time. :)

One Fly, Whadayamean Dean? Studebakers weren't made for cornering. They had other qualities....

Hey, it sounds like you're heading for Salinas outliers off the Turquoise Trail and loads of fun - a great way to begin a New Year.

  19. Remembered two more and already forgot one. The one I remember was like a 68 early Suburban type. 250 six banger - truck 4speed. I'd drive something like that today. Used it for a business.

  21. Just membered a 78 I believe Chevy short bed 350 auto / cruise the whole thing. Rust colored cloth seats. It was a great ride plus being a very good looking truck.

  22. Yo kiddies - I know I've forgot a couple but in looking for a long ago post I came across the one I did for the only "new car" ever owned and I wish I had it now. This was something else.
