Border Patrol Moving Inland

Part of the agency's national strategy is a "defensive and depth posture," meaning the checkpoints are there to catch anyone who gets past the first line of agents. The agency's expanded operations are part of carrying out its mandate to secure the northern border. That includes nabbing illegal immigrants, catching drug smugglers and protecting the country against terrorism.

The key word here is terrorism. This is another way to get more body's and guns on the ground just like the recent deployment of the military in this country so when the shit hits the fan these people will turn those guns on Americans just as sure as shit. That's the main purpose of this and nothing less.
