Toga Toga Toga

History doesn't tell us who uttered those words made famous many years later but started here on the Green River. The locals saw boats approaching and they looked like they were in trouble.

They were surrounded by sharks and with the help of the locals made it to shore and safety. It was then those words were heard an lo and behold the visitor and his entourage was John Wesley Powell.

The music began in earnest.

All wore smiles.

The bubbly flowed like the Green River itself.

The dancing girls danced harder and there were more smiles.

Legend along the river has it that later on in the evening this fellow and his buddy's showed up and gave the parties a light show in the sky that capped the end of a fine party along the river those so many years ago.

Disclaimer: The only thing that's true is that there is a Green River. Powell did come through here. The pictures and art shown are very close to the river. The rest is pretty much pure rubbish.

  1. The closest I've been to the Green was back in 2005, when I hiked to the overlook above the confluence of the Green and the Grand in Canyonlands National Park.

Wish I coulda been there for the "light show." Nice pics, a kokapelli even, and a fine tale. My kinda party.

  4. It was hard to get this to come together. There's a bit of humor there if you click on the pictures to actually see what's there. The one sure looks like a leg to me. It's not that great but it's something anyway. Thank you TE!

  5. The Green was brown when I saw it in October, 2005. So was the Grand. But what a magnificent sight! I've read all the significant John Wesley Powell books, so the account of his expedition finally reaching the confluence of the Green and the Grand meant so much more to me.

  6. I've never seen that Fearguth - maybe next summer. It must be impressive. Where the Yampa flows into the Green and ends at Echo Park is interesting as well. I wish I was at one of those places now!

  7. Echo Park: that's in Dinosaur National Monument, isn't it?
