This is Bistek al la Mexicana a common dish found many places. There are several places I get this some better than others but all real decent! Kind of a tomato based sauce with generally pretty tender pieces of beef and a fair amount of it. The rice is pretty generic but the frijoles can be something else. This also includes as many fresh made in front of you tortillas you want and brought to you with a smile. Something like this costs around 50-60 pesos or $3. The squeezed as you watch orange juice is 20 and brings the price up a bit but worth it. Nothing in the States I've ever had compares to this not even close plus it'll cost 7-10 smacks. I don't know what I'm going to eat when I return. It will be an adjustment as I do this so much that is go into Puerto Vallarta on the south side and have me a excellent lunch with "real" Mexican food not the slop I get back there. I do not plan on eating out much at all only at maybe three select places. Pricey yes but worth it because it's so good. I threw away so much money last summer eating way overpriced shitty food. Several times the food got thrown away as well. The whole of Mexico is an eating machine I tell you. I'm gonna miss this.

I feel good and and think the higher temps and humidity contributes to that. It's the same every time. After a month or two you realize and say " Hey I feel pretty damn good!"

Just as important I believe the food made fresh with wholesome fresh ingredients as well contributes to that. Get off the bus in town the food smells everywhere make me hungry just like that.

Salida Girls

When I left here last Thursday morning it became obvious 60 miles down the road the irritation in my right eye was probably a foreign object and not a simple scratch experienced many times before and that before I got to where I was going someone was going to look at it and I was not turning around.

Nothing in Minturn-saw nothing along the way in Leadville or Buena Vista but I know both towns surely have optometrists. Grabbed the yellow pages in Salida and got the addresses to a couple optometrists and found the second one easily as it was just a few blocks away.

Walked in off the street and left in about 40 minutes after being taken care of and treated so nicely from every member of the staff and the one male that interacted with me. Yes walked out with one less piece of metal in my eye and a prescription.

Thank you all at the Rocky Mountain Eye Center in Salida,CO for taking such good care of me and for being so nice outgoing and friendly!

That was accomplished with a $20 co-pay and $10 for my part of the prescription from a whining pharmacist who was annoyed that I wasn't from there and he had to write down some information. I don't think he was from there because he was not very nice.

I don't know what all of this would have cost but I'm sure several hundred and not sure what I would have done without insurance. Certainly waited until it got bad enough till something had to be done and this was something that needed specialized equipment.

Every American deserves access to treatment like this so they do not have to pay hundreds of dollars because health care is unavailable to them  or they just don't have any.

Thanks again ladies.

  1. I can imagine that beautiful trout thinking,"Well, if I had to get caught, at least it was by that nice Mr. One Fly."

  2. That is correct my friend as they all get released unharmed.

BTW there is more snow outside than I've ever seen before I do believe.

  3. We've already had three snow events this winter, with another forecast for Tuesday-Wednesday. The last time I liked snow was when I was a teenager.

  4. Salida's a nice town. When I lived in Co. we used to drive there for the kyack races. They used to have a couple of huge trout in a fountain, don't know if they still do. Glad everything turned out nice for you.

  5. We just switched insurance companies and just doing that gave me the heebie-jeebies.

  6. I am glad that you were able to get that taken care of. You are an amazing photographer and you need your eyes! :)

  7. Wow-thank you for that Liberality.
