I drove past this between Salida and Cotopaxi on State Highway 50 in Colorado. I had to turn around and tell whoever that I stood with them totally assuming I was correct. I was and got the biggest hug of appreciation for doing so.

From my understanding, there are close to 3000 children being held around this country after being seized from their parents at the border.

Many will never see their Mom and Dad again because Republicans are totally evil.

You bastards!

Do The Math On Wannabe Badges

1400 applications for 110 shoot at will positions.

More than 1,400 people applied this week to take the test that could earn them positions in the Denver Police Department's first academy classes in four years. But it hopes to hire as many as 110 officers this year.

Of the veterans who applied how many are suffering from mental injuries and will be hired. Just saying.

Then if you do wrong - well you then become pretty special. This is sooo bad!

Denver police officers won't be charged in the 2009 Landau beating case. The decision brought vindication to the officers and disillusionment to Landau, whose federal lawsuit against the city ended in 2011 with a $795,000 settlement, one of the largest payouts in city history to resolve a police-brutality case.

  1. The reality is that those 110 slots are going to be filled by insiders, not by random vets and gang-bangers. Mark my word, pretty much every one of them is going to be a relative or kid of a cop or retired cop, even though it's officially a Civil Service position. The deal being that the relatives/kids have the inside scoop on what to do to get a high score on the test, while the random sod off the street... not so much. Just another way that "meritocracy" in actuality is just another word for "aristocracy", yo.

Ah, yeah, my best friend growing up was a cop's kid. And your point is?

  2. Not to say that most cops out there on the street had some sort of a hard on for the world - the grade school bully. Tell me, why would you work for less than 30K a year with shitty hours (and put your life at risks) unless there was some major satisfaction that came from it?
Trust me, it ain't pride of keeping the town safe? Ever dealt with a cop? Pricks enjoy being pricks and that is why they work for shit pay.

Have you ever noticed hpw many cops show up for some bullshit bust? That is where the action is.

Those fuckers running radar have one hand on their cock and the other on their gun...

    1. Starting salary for a fresh Denver PD officer is almost $50K/year. The Denver PD salary scale tops out at over $100K/year. And the benefits -- and, usually, job security -- aren't bad either. So no, a desire to knock heads is *not* the only reason why so many signed up for the Denver police academy -- it's a plum job with a plum salary, knocking heads is only a fringe benefit.

    2. Oh yeah, one last thing. Police work is *not* the most dangerous job in America. It ranks down around 12th or so on the "Dangerous Jobs" list. Just sayin'.

    3. In the last four months the Pueblo cops have shot and killed three people. I have my own Denver cop stories. This prick cop I encountered in Keokuk,IA last May should have had his ass kicked. All I did was ask a question bike riding rules around downtown. If I had smarted back at this fucker he would have had me.

We are all correct. I avoid these people as much as possible. It's the Highway dicks that ply the interstate between the NM state line and Pueblo who really can fuck with you and do. There is no real back way to get up there and it seems there may not be as many like before. They'll be back.

Thinking about your first comment and insiders getting the jobs Penguin I think that is more the case than not. I naively thought there would be more importance put on a cops position.

That's after walking out of the third call in for an interview with Denver Parks & Rec. They had a central shop where much of the golf course equipment from all their gc's was taken to be worked on. The interviewer had forgotten his interview list when he came out and called a fellow in. I looked and saw I was the only white boy on it. No way were they going to hire me.

Over the years got to see first hand some of the work they turned out. They could have used me. These jobs are almost like gold. I could have had a pot to piss in even now.

  3. I'll bet there's more to the Chris Dorner story... That thing just stinks. Sad he had to kill someone to get his story out there, but it just stinks. Wonder if the story/department corruption will just fade away???

  4. Haven't read much, except to say that as a poor 59 year old white woman on unemployment, and blessed with food stamps, living in Montgomery, Alabama,

I still like to see my police force out, even if I'm doing something wrong. M'kay?

  5. I've lived in Montgomery, Alabama for many years now, through wild times and tame, and I've experienced maybe ONE asshole cop. Somehow, I trust them and am comforted by them. So sue me, goddammit.
