At a retreat this week, the Aspen Chamber Resort Association’s board
voted 11 to 1 to withdraw its membership from the national organization.
Tension between Aspen’s chamber and the national one existed for years.
The 680-member local chamber penned a letter to the national group in
2010 delineating its differences. But this year — which saw the driest
winter in Aspen since the 1976-1977 season — politics are in overdrive
thanks to the coming November general election. Several weeks ago, Aspen’s chamber began feeling pressure from Schendler and his Aspen Skiing Co. bosses, the mayor, a pair of county commissioners and residents who had had enough of the local chamber’s affiliation with the right-wing U.S. Chamber and its obstruction of solutions to climate change.

I drove past this between Salida and Cotopaxi on State Highway 50 in Colorado. I had to turn around and tell whoever that I stood with them totally assuming I was correct. I was and got the biggest hug of appreciation for doing so.
From my understanding, there are close to 3000 children being held around this country after being seized from their parents at the border.
Many will never see their Mom and Dad again because Republicans are totally evil.
You bastards!

The Argument from the Pocketbook is always irrefutable.
ReplyDeleteBack in da boat the chamber is a major player in cahoots with the council and realtors. Each whore in their own special way. What Aspen did will never happen there.
DeleteIs your cactus blooming now?? Great shot. I was up on the windy hill to see if ours were blooming but not yet. Way too cold. Freeze warnings last night and tonight. We are on our way out back to collect all the burned stubs and fallen trees ... we will put them in a pile and finish burning them. They are a hindrance now, not a help.

Is and has been. It was 72 yesterday with a 30mph wind and it was chilly and nasty for most of the day. 35 last night. Probably will be about the same today as the wind is picking up.
DeleteAmazing header!
ReplyDeleteThe green thorny cactuses and the charming red flowers are a true delight to the eye.
Thanks Duta. Sometimes these cactus have many more blooms than this.
DeleteMy town is infested with right wing sheep. These idiots will most likely volunteer to pay more US Chamber dues to make up for your chamber leaving.
ReplyDeleteThen demand a tax break for it.
It's the New American Way Truth.
