This is Bistek al la Mexicana a common dish found many places. There are several places I get this some better than others but all real decent! Kind of a tomato based sauce with generally pretty tender pieces of beef and a fair amount of it. The rice is pretty generic but the frijoles can be something else. This also includes as many fresh made in front of you tortillas you want and brought to you with a smile. Something like this costs around 50-60 pesos or $3. The squeezed as you watch orange juice is 20 and brings the price up a bit but worth it. Nothing in the States I've ever had compares to this not even close plus it'll cost 7-10 smacks. I don't know what I'm going to eat when I return. It will be an adjustment as I do this so much that is go into Puerto Vallarta on the south side and have me a excellent lunch with "real" Mexican food not the slop I get back there. I do not plan on eating out much at all only at maybe three select places. Pricey yes but worth it because it's so good. I threw away so much money last summer eating way overpriced shitty food. Several times the food got thrown away as well. The whole of Mexico is an eating machine I tell you. I'm gonna miss this.

I feel good and and think the higher temps and humidity contributes to that. It's the same every time. After a month or two you realize and say " Hey I feel pretty damn good!"

Just as important I believe the food made fresh with wholesome fresh ingredients as well contributes to that. Get off the bus in town the food smells everywhere make me hungry just like that.

A Post Office Or The Other

Without question in small towns across this country post offices are the life blood of the community in many cases.

With post office's closure, Searsboro surrenders

Hate to be an ass but this is what you get and deserve for the most part for your support of the very people who had intended to do this kind of crap all along. Now there are hurt feelings but you still think 911 was caused by Saddam. You think the rag heads are still after "our freedoms" and this country's safety and security is in constant jeapordy plus you love our wars - everyone of them enough that you never will say "STOP"!!
It's your own damn fault. Damn you for your stupidity when the real facts of the matter are there. You have to look just a little bit but you prefer to be dummy's at the rest of our expense.

  1. One, you've peeled off another excellent and thought-provoking post here. As the product of a small town, I do know that the post office is really at the heart of the town. You're right: closing them will change the character of the nation.

Many people do not think very much beyond their daily life and what they are exposed to. I watched the national (world?) TV network news this evening, just the last part of the broadcast. They spent most of it on a "talking dog" that is a YouTube star. That is what we've come to.

On a happier note, I truly love the daily photo and feel this thrill of anticipation whenever I visit Outta the Cornfield as I await the page to load. Thank you so much for those photos. You are surely gifted.

  2. It really is their own fault Billie. Repuglicans have been very open about their desires to eliminate guvmint. No need to go further.

I'm stuggling with my pictures as I'm not at home and playing around with two new laptops. A mac and a pc. It's not play it's work. One is going back. Still inclined to keep the pc but the picture quality is 85% of the mac.

Sometimes I'm just as wowed as you are. I have to chuckle a little bit now and than. Me - I did that really.

    Thank you for that.

  3. People say, "we don't need the post offices any more, we have the internet." Once traditional modes of communication are gone - the P.O., landline telephones - see how long it takes the government to shut down cell phone service and the internet for the first concocted emergency that comes along.

News is a one-way thing, they tell you what to think. They aren't interested in your subversive opinion, you'll never get on the news unless you're some redneck hick who grew a 10 ton turnip and they can fashion a story out of that.

How in the heck did we all get soooo stupid so fast?
