For soon deporting a 30 year old mother of four and Iraq veteran who chose not to deploy back to Iraq for another tour and applied for refugee status. Assholes!
You can damn well bet the Empire had their slimy paws on this too.
“We are very upset about this decision,” said Robidoux. “The cases of war resisters are not being looked at properly. (Immigration Minister Jason) Kenney continues to intervene by telling immigration officers to red flag US soldiers who are applying for asylum as criminally inadmissible. We think that has tainted the whole process and the government should withdraw that directive.”
The deal is that U.S. soldiers aren't the demographic that Canada is looking for to replenish its supply of young people, given Canada's declining birth rate and the need for sufficient workers to support the Baby Boomers in retirement in the style to which they are accustomed. Canada is looking for well educated (Bachelor's minimum, Master's or PhD preferred) Asians. Well educated because they figure even a cabbie with a college degree is better for their economy than white trash from Kentucky, and Asian because they figure Asians aren't as big of troublemakers as white trash from Kentucky.
ReplyDeleteIn short, U.S. soldiers heading up into Canada have *three* strikes against them -- they're generally poorly educated compared to the immigrants Canada is looking for, they're from a culture that Canadians despise (white trash culture), and keeping them would piss off the U.S., Canada's biggest trading partner. It's all about money, in the end... Canada has, apparently, caught American Disease big-time when it comes to money.

DeleteWTF happened to Canada? Used to be a haven of enlightenment and liberalism. Becoming more like America every day.
ReplyDeleteHi Tony. It's probably pretty close to what BTux said. We seem to have that effect on other countries. Thanks for coming by!
