This is Bistek al la Mexicana a common dish found many places. There are several places I get this some better than others but all real decent! Kind of a tomato based sauce with generally pretty tender pieces of beef and a fair amount of it. The rice is pretty generic but the frijoles can be something else. This also includes as many fresh made in front of you tortillas you want and brought to you with a smile. Something like this costs around 50-60 pesos or $3. The squeezed as you watch orange juice is 20 and brings the price up a bit but worth it. Nothing in the States I've ever had compares to this not even close plus it'll cost 7-10 smacks. I don't know what I'm going to eat when I return. It will be an adjustment as I do this so much that is go into Puerto Vallarta on the south side and have me a excellent lunch with "real" Mexican food not the slop I get back there. I do not plan on eating out much at all only at maybe three select places. Pricey yes but worth it because it's so good. I threw away so much money last summer eating way overpriced shitty food. Several times the food got thrown away as well. The whole of Mexico is an eating machine I tell you. I'm gonna miss this.

I feel good and and think the higher temps and humidity contributes to that. It's the same every time. After a month or two you realize and say " Hey I feel pretty damn good!"

Just as important I believe the food made fresh with wholesome fresh ingredients as well contributes to that. Get off the bus in town the food smells everywhere make me hungry just like that.

Back Being A Chevy Man Again

I say that a lot and that meant a lot when muscle cars were important. This is a Chevy and it was not purchased because of that but for it's size and condition.  You never know for sure what you really have until you get it home and really start looking it over and so far there have been no real surprises and that's real good.

The rear transmission seal leaks but that is easily repaired and I'm having the tranny serviced and it can be done then. This is a 1990 and in 2000 with no add- ons  these cost 52K. It's a popup and Westphalia like but better.

Everything so far works and functions well. Have not had the cowling off to look over the motor. 117K and these are noted for getting to 300 consistently. It rides and drives very nice and the previous owner made quite a few nice little tweeks inside and maintained it better than just good. 17mpg like he said and I believe it's not going much higher if at all.

The water system has not been tried. If it's warm again tomorrow that's next. The furnace works great and it has a hot water heater as well. All kinds of problems can crop up with these things but I have a feeling this will all work too. It has both  grey  and black water holding tank and the bathroom and all of it for that matter is clean and actually usable. I'm into small anyway but it will not get used much if at all. We'll see.

So I'm a Chevy Man again and looking forward to getting away later this month to the southern California desert. I wanted to be able to stand up and be warm and comfortable at the same time. Gas mileage is a bit of an issue but when used the plan is to stay for a while at places visited.

I am very fortunate to be able to do things like this. Very much so!

  1. Fly, the unit looks pretty nice, really hope it works OK for you.

    Tim in KC area

  2. What is the name of the little town on your header?

  3. That Christopher is Albuquerque,NM.

  4. Really? It looks nice. Small and manageable.

  5. 500K live there. It's a pretty decent place to live I believe. When I took this picture part of the reason for going was to meet these three guys who blog from there. It was a good time.

  6. Gosh...almost missed this. Congrats!!! Think you're gonna love it.

  7. Your header is WOW!!!! And great for you...it looks fun and now you can say....California or Bust! Just like the rest of them.

  8. Ther's a lot going on here TMoon and the water system got tested and all works as well. Minor issue with gray water holding tank. This will get treated very nice.

And Cali is where I'm probably headed some time later next month Linda.

  9. I used to have a Westphalia. It was a cold mf in winter. This looks really nice. There are times when I get stressed out with the wife, kids and grandkids I envy someone like you that can get away from it all and enjoy themselves.

  10. I had one too and you bet it was cold. Cold going down the road too. It's possible to regain that fairly inexpensively Patrick. I learned a lot before I made the decision to get this. I think it will be okay. You never know. Everything works except for the ac and cruise and have been there yet and hoping to get lucky with simple fixes.
