As of last week, Denver had issued more than 300 sales-tax licenses for dispensaries. That number slightly exceeds the number of Starbucks coffee shops in Denver and surrounding areas, calculated within a 50-mile radius. It is roughly twice the number of the city's public schools. It exceeds the number of retail liquor stores in Denver by about a third.
Looking at those statistics and others in that piece I can't help to chuckle a whole bunch and say it's long over due this particular change.

Congrats Colorado. What will the overlords in other less fortunate states do with all those empty prison beds. Fill them with white collar criminals and crooked politicians? ReplyDeleteWell the war on drugs has done what it was intended to do, open the door for burning the Constitution. W wouldn't have been able to do all the damage in such a short time if he didn't already have the courts winking at the lack of due process towards drug users.

I think what is occuring is the argument of right and wrong, unsustainable and sustainable and the publics conscienceable decision that we cannot just keep arresting, convicting and sentencing people for their use of marajuana. As we roll along through life there are issues like this that after a period of time at some point become unarguable. With all states having trouble balancing their budgets and loking for any source of cash, having thousands of prisoners hotten' and cottn' for smokin', it becomes obvious. The bankers on Wall St. will have to live with an unintended consequence of their actions and I'm sure Washington D.C. will in the end bow to the will of the states as it's not like they have any cash left.
