A Utah state senator is proposing cutting 12th grade from Utah high schools. Republican Sen. Chris Buttars of West Jordan says sometimes the 12th grade is spent fooling around. On Monday, Buttars told a subcommittee that getting rid of 12th grade would save the state $102 million. Buttars also said he wants to cancel all busing for high school students to save $15 million. Rep. Marie Poulson, D-Cottonwood Heights, says senior year is when students mature and excel in academics, sports and activities.
You wouldn't think this guy is serious but he is.
They're just looking at the numbers, who cares about education. They've been doing this ever since Reagan declared war on public education in 1986.

ReplyDeleteDid it occur to this yahoo that the reason the 12th grade is "spent fooling around" is that it's the last year? If there are only eleven grades, then the 11th grade will be the fooling around year.
